  • Why Vaccinations and Regular Vet Checkups Matter

Preventive care is the foundation of a long, healthy life for your pet. Routine visits help catch problems early, when they are easier and less expensive to treat.

    Core Vaccinations

Core vaccines protect against serious, widespread diseases. For dogs, these typically include rabies, distemper, parvovirus, and adenovirus. For cats, they typically include rabies, feline panleukopenia, calicivirus, and herpesvirus. Your veterinarian will tailor a schedule to your pet’s age, lifestyle, and local regulations.

    Puppy and Kitten Schedules

Young animals receive a series of vaccines in their first months, followed by boosters. Completing the full series is important for strong protection.

    Annual or Biannual Checkups

Adult pets generally benefit from at least one wellness exam per year. Senior pets, or pets with chronic conditions, may need visits every six months.

    What Happens at a Checkup

The vet will check weight, heart and lungs, teeth, skin, eyes, ears, and joints. Bloodwork, fecal tests, and parasite screening may also be recommended.

    Keep Records

Maintain a file with vaccination dates, medications, and any health notes. This is helpful for boarding, travel, and emergencies.
